Students of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Cyprus, who attended the course of Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Department of Business Administration and Public Administration in the context of their undergraduate studies, managed to secure the first place in and Entrepreneurship of the “StartUp 2020” Program organized by the Junior Achievement Cyprus (JA Cyprus) organization between universities in Cyprus.

Junior Achievement Cyprus, a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, a global non-profit organization specializing in youth entrepreneurship education, introduced and piloted the StartUp program in higher education this academic year.

Three universities participated in the competition and more than 100 students / three. This year, a total of 23 teams from the University of Cyprus, the University of Nicosia and the Cyprus University of Technology participated.

Specifically, six of the ten groups of students / three that made it to the final are groups of students / three from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering who developed their business ideas in the course Entrepreneurship and Innovation of Dr. Dainas Nikolaou. The specific course offered by the Department of Business Administration and Public Administration focuses on the development of the necessary skills needed by young players.

Business Innovation of the Year 2020 emerged the innovative business idea of ​​the student group of the University of Cyprus "AID4ALL" (George Misii, Christos Pitsillos, Konstantinos Sarri, Marinos Chatzistavri and Anastasios Chrysostavis the athlete in the church), who designed a communication system hearing loss using the sense of touch during individual and group sports.

The third place was won by the team of students of the University of Cyprus "SPORTZA" (Kypriana Antoniou, Panagiotis Goumenos, Andronikos Zantis, Georgios Konstantinou, Andri Papasavva, Savvas Tryfonos), which offers an easy-to-use application platform that provides reservation of available private and public stadiums or sports facilities and the ability to form a team or find a rival team, including People with Disabilities (PWDs).

The teams presented to a jury consisting of Andreas Papadopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Cyprus, Spyros Haritou from the Department of Public Relations of the US Embassy in Cyprus, Konstantinos Karagirias Emporios Eborios, Minister and Senior Officer , Theodoros Loukaidis, General Manager of the Research and Innovation Foundation and Andreas Koupparis, CEO of Cyprus Business Angels Network and member of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Cyprus.

The winning team of students of the University of Cyprus "AID4ALL" will represent Cyprus in the Pan-European Competition of JA Europe, European Enterprise Challenge, which will be held Digitally on June 24-26, 2020, by the Junior Achievement of Greece.
