The Archbishop of Cyprus George issued a statement about the scandals of the Abvakum Monastery.
This announcement:
I would like to express my sincere regret for what is coming to light about the rumored frauds, wrongdoings and all kinds of immorality within the Church of Cyprus.
I assure the Christ-named staff of the Church that my decision is to fully investigate in all their dimensions what scandalizes us all. The Holy Synod has entrusted its judicial bodies with the full investigation of the case, which have already begun their investigations. I call on the Police as well as all the agencies of the Republic of Cyprus, involved in the investigations, to investigate the case to the end. Such phenomena cannot be accepted in any way and by anyone.
I am sure that you can all distinguish the institution of the Church from persons unworthy of their mission. In the Church there are many clergy who honor their mission. The Church, I am sure, will emerge strengthened from today's crisis.
I wish that God blesses our entry into Great Lent, that we may reach Holy Week unbroken so that we can appropriate the Grace that flowed from the Immaculate Passion and the Three-Day Resurrection of Christ.
