The professor of Microbiology and Molecular Virology of the University of Nicosia, Dr. Petros Karagiannis, was optimistic about the number of cases, speaking on the show "Protoselido".

"The cases that were announced yesterday were a ray of hope, because they were much less than what was announced in the previous days. What was most encouraging was that the private initiative resulted in a small number of positive cases. "This shows that there are not many casualties in the community," he explained.

He added, "It is extremely important that we protect nursing homes, because these are people who are already isolated and should not get sick."

Asked when there is expected to be a reduction in cases, Dr. Karagiannis said that "if by the end of this week we continue to have low numbers of cases below 100, this will be very encouraging. The most important thing at the moment is to control the outbreak in the two provinces. I hope that on Thursday, when there will be a new National report by province, we will start to see a decrease in cases ".

Regarding the images that made the rounds of the internet outside the sampling centers, Dr. Karagiannis said that, unfortunately, there is no sense of distancing in the images.

"Some people wear the mask, while others wear it under the chin or only cover the mouth. They are not the best images one can see and be encouraged, but at least from the rapid tests we had very positive results. "This shows that the problem is not big."
