About today's extraordinary meeting of the epidemiological team with the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, and the possibility of introducing a general lockdown in our country, after the rapid increase in cases, spoke on the show Front Page Professor of Molecular Virology at Lev University Petros Karagiannis.
Regarding the upcoming meeting, Dr. Karagiannis said that the increased number of cases has worried all of us as well as the President, who wants to be informed first hand.
"He wants to be informed about whether we can manage the increased cases in the coming days and whether we will start to see the numbers fall. "We have this upward trend due to the large influx observed in the slaughterhouse," he said.
Asked if the situation is manageable or if there is a case for a new lockdown to be decided, Dr. Karagiannis said that President Anastasiadis will ask for their opinion on the issue.
"I do not want to prejudge the debate, but what will determine our course is the ability of our hospitals to cope. We currently have 77 people in our hospitals. The Reference Hospital is almost full, so wards from other hospitals will be needed. "There are seven intubated patients and that number has already started to increase."
Regarding the possibility of new measures in addition to those in force, Dr. Karagiannis said that "perhaps some stricter measures should be introduced. We will also see the numbers per province. Stricter measures may not be needed in all provinces. "On the other hand, if we want to stop the dispersal, maybe some measures could be taken in other provinces as well."
