Landslides in a residential area occurred at dawn in Aglantzia. The landslide caused damage to a car, as well as an adjacent house under construction.

The occupant of the house who was affected, told KYPE: "We woke up terrified, it was very scary. A large piece of rock had fallen again after a previous earthquake. That's happening again today. "

The Mayor of Aglantzia, Andreas Konstantinou, told KYPE that for the first time such a large piece of rock was detached and estimated that this was a consequence of the earthquake. The house that is under construction and has a building permit with the new conditions, he said, had a retaining wall, which limited the damage, while the older house, for which the Municipality is not able to know the terms of the building permit, was affected. more, with soils entering the house.

Mr. Konstantinou stated to KYPE that the Municipality has started work to support the rocks, with a budget of 1 million euros from the Ministry of Interior, which, however, concerns exclusively the government units. He noted that the Municipality can not intervene in private homes with public funds. What it does is make recommendations to residents to avoid illegal use of the caves.

It is noted that the Municipal Council of Aglantzia, in a decision dated 20/10/2021 decided to record the cases that seem to arise such problems and to call the owners of the premises at the beginning of 2022, when the registration is completed, to take the necessary measures .

The Mayor noted in KYPE that with a recent decision of the Municipality, it is a necessary condition in the new building permits to conduct a geological study and to erect a retaining wall, in order to avoid similar phenomena in the future.
