Two people, aged 21 and 52, were arrested by the Police for a self-inflicted crime, after they were allegedly driving last night on the Nicosia - Larnaca highway at excessive speed.

According to the Police, shortly before 8 last night, on the Nicosia - Larnaca highway near Kosi, members of the Road Accident Prevention Unit (OPOD) of the Police Headquarters stopped a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old at a speed of 196 kilometers per hour instead of 100.

The young man was arrested for a self-inflicted crime and then after being charged in writing, he was released to be summoned before a Court at a later stage.

A little later, also on the Nicosia highway near the area of Lympia, the members of the OPOD Headquarters signaled to a vehicle driver to stop for control, as he was driving at a speed of 185 kilometers per hour instead of 100.

However, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, "driving recklessly and dangerously, while he also turned off his traffic lights", according to the Police.

Eventually, the vehicle was stopped and an investigation revealed that the driver was 52 years old, who was arrested for a self-inflicted crime.

The man, after being charged in writing, was later released to be summoned at a later stage before a court.
