The total number of registered vehicles decreased by 16,1% in 2020

The total number of registered vehicles decreased by 16,1% in 2020 and reached 39.367, compared to 46.896 in 2019, according to the Statistical Service.

Registrations of saloon passenger cars decreased in the period January-December 2020 by 18,4% and reached 30.828, compared to 37.802 in the corresponding period of 2019. Of the total saloon passenger cars, 10.237 or 33,2% were new and 20.591 or 66,8% were used cars.

Bus registrations increased in 2020 to 305, from 175 in 2019, while registrations of freight vehicles decreased to 4.559 in the period January-December 2020, compared to 5.786 in the corresponding period of 2019, recording a decrease of 21,2%.

Specifically, according to the Statistical Service, light trucks decreased by 23,6% to 3.812, heavy trucks by 5,2% to 565 and road tractors (trailers) by 8,1% to 182.

In addition, moped registrations <50ke decreased to 246 in the period January-December 2020, from 280 in the corresponding period of the previous year, showing a decrease of 12,1%. Also, motorcycle registrations> 50ke increased by 22,9% to 2.989 in the period January-December 2020, compared to 2.433 in the same period of 2019.

The main suppliers of vehicles in Cyprus in 2020 were Japan (28,1%), Germany (22,9%), the United Kingdom (8,5%) and France (7,2%).

Moreover, according to the Statistical Service, in December 2020, the total registrations of motor vehicles reached 3.288, recording a decrease of 2,3% compared to December 2019. Registrations of saloon passenger cars decreased by 3,6% to 2.571.
