The appointment of MEP Lefteris Christoforos as a member of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) for Cyprus, as well as the appointment of a new member for Malta, was officially announced on Thursday by the Luxembourg-based body of European Auditors.

The term of office of Mr. Christoforos begins on November 2, 2022 and ends on November 1, 2028.

The MEP is appointed to replace Lazaros Lazaros following a proposal by the Cypriot government and approval by the European Parliament and the EU Council.

As noted in the announcement, Mr. Christoforou has been an MEP since 2014 and a full member of the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT).

According to information published in the Cypriot press, the position of MEP is expected to be taken by the former DISY MP, Eleni Stavrou.

The appointment of George Heisler as Malta's representative to the ECA was also announced on Thursday. Mr. Heisler, who has served as Commissioner of Ethics and Standards in public life in Malta since 2018, is appointed for a term beginning on 1 October 2022 and ending on 30 September 2028, to replace Leo Brinkat.
