The first hearing of the case against the Republic of Cyprus, the Minister of Health and members of the advisory scientific committee on the measures to deal with the coronavirus pandemic took place today in the District Court of Nicosia.

In fact, according to valid information from OMEGA, an extraordinary teleconference of the members of the advisory scientific committee is currently underway and they are discussing the issue with each other again and how they will handle the lawsuits against them. Some insist that the state should grant them immunity, with the same sources saying that on Monday they will have a meeting with the Minister of Health on the issue.

The announcement of the legal service came early in the morning stating that: "After a suggestion of the legal service, the plaintiffs agreed to withdraw the application for temporary injunctions against all members of the advisory epidemiological committee, with the result that the application against them was rejected."

A total of 103 are suing the Republic of Cyprus, the Minister of Health and the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee on the legality of the measures and decrees that came into force from time to time for the management of the pandemic and mainly regarding the safe pass, the use of a mask and rapid tests in schools.

However, the plaintiff, which contacted OMEGA, stated that the specific request concerns only the Minister of Health and the Republic of Cyprus.

REQUEST FOR SUSPENSION OF "SAFE PASS"

"For the purposes of requesting a decree, it is directed against the state and the health minister only as the decrees are issued by them and not by the members of the scientific communication team," the plaintiff said.

On the other hand, as far as the main part of the case is concerned, the lawsuit against the members of the advisory scientific committee remains, with circles from the legal service stating that the court was suggested to withdraw it as well, but the plaintiffs asked for time to study it, with the result that a new hearing is scheduled for July 1 at 10:30 in the morning where the relevant speeches will be made either in writing or orally.
