Special operational action plans have been prepared by all police departments throughout Holy Week, Police Spokesman Christos Andreou told KYPE.

Asked about the measures taken by the Police in view of Easter, as well as the issue of flashlights and the use of crackers, Mr. Andreou said that special operational action plans have been prepared by all police departments throughout Holy Week.

"There will be an increased presence of the Police in places where there is increased activity in the form that there are flashlights, use of crackers," he added.

Mr. Andreou stated that every day the Police locates and arrests persons, in whose possession quantities of crackers are found.

"What we recommend and say to the world on a daily basis is how parents exercise more control over their children as young people, mostly minors, are found to use such illegal and dangerous objects at advanced times," he said.

When these dangerous objects (SS crackers) are in the hands of minors, he stated, "there is a risk of causing bodily harm to themselves and other persons who are close to them", noting that "we have seen in the past that they are injured with the use of crackers with amputations and other more serious injuries ".

In addition, Mr. Andreou said that measures are being taken regarding issues related to the prevention of property crimes, such as burglaries and thefts, as well as the Police conducting traffic checks throughout the road network.

"Also, there will be an even stronger presence of the Police on the roads regarding the traffic controls and in the coming days both on the highways and on the secondary road network but also on the urban network", he added.

He also stated that the Chief of Police himself, in this morning's teleconference, gave instructions to the Police Directors of the Provinces, to intensify their efforts and there is an increased presence of police officers on the streets.

The Police, continued Mr. Andreou, wish a happy Easter to all the world. "Bloody celebrations. "Let us drive wisely, so that we can enjoy all these Holy Days without injuries and without traffic collisions", he concluded.
