The first phase of the strategy for lifting the restrictive measures to prevent the spread of the virus begins today in Cyprus Covid-19. The lockdown that was imposed throughout Cyprus lasted three weeks and was imposed on January 10.

As of today, the following are implemented: Reopening of barbershops, hairdressers, beauty salons, increase from 25% to 50% of the percentage of staff that can have a physical presence in private service companies, without minimum and maximum number of people, ban on gatherings in homes, with the exception of the visit of up to two people.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health is scaling up the strategy of preventive controls, especially with the use of rapid antigen tests, in view of the first phase of the relaxation of the restriction measures.

At this stage, meanwhile, access to nature trails continues to be banned for both sport and other reasons, in a bid to prevent major riots.

The 2nd phase of the de-escalation of measures will start next Monday, February 8, 2021, and will include the reopening of public and private primary schools and the 50rd Class of Lyceums and Technical Schools, the reopening of retail businesses, including department stores and , the reopening of museums and other archeological sites, the reopening of gambling agencies, only for the purpose of completing the ticket, without the use of table seats. Also, the Divine Liturgy in the places of religious worship is performed with the presence of believers with a maximum number of persons up to XNUMX people, in compliance with the health protocols, and finally the increase in the number of people to visit homes, to four people.

As stated by the Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou, the de-escalation steps will be very slow, coordinated and controlled, so that there is the possibility of monitoring the epidemiological situation and limiting the possibility of epidemiological deterioration. The ministry also said that Cyprus is one of the few EU countries to de-escalate the measures.
