The unfortunate loss of the late mayor of Famagusta, Alexis Galanou, leaves beyond a huge gap in the political life of the place, and a vacant position of mayor of the occupied municipality. In communication of "KATHIMERINI" with the election registrar Mr. Dimitris Dimitriou, he clarified all the stages until the election of a new mayor on August 25.

As Mr. Dimitriou informed, the official announcement of the elections is set for Friday, July 26. One week later, on August 02, the election commissioner will announce the date and place of the nomination, which is expected to be August 8.

According to Mr. Dimitriou, the deadline is set for August 25th, a day when the people of Famagusta will be invited to elect their new mayor. According to the election commissioner, there are about 32.000 voters across Cyprus, with the lion's share being hosted in Larnaca and Limassol.

Regarding the polling stations that will open on August 25, Mr. Dimitriou told us that this issue is expected to be clarified in the near future, however, it is expected to be around 50 polling stations throughout Cyprus.
