The uproar from the revelations of the Al Jazeera news agency about the Cypriot naturalization program continues. The Citizens' Alliance demands the resignation of the Speaker of Parliament while it considers that the Attorney General should order a criminal investigation.
The Citizens' Alliance, from its first reaction to the relevant issue, stressed that the motives for the relevant reporting are malicious. At the same time, however, we carefully studied the article as well as the relevant video that is quoted, from which serious issues arise which cannot go unnoticed:
1. The Speaker of Parliament, Dimitris Syllouris, is portrayed to be involved in issues that are not within his competence while he does not hesitate to explain the ways of circumventing the provisions of the legislation, with a clear abuse of his position. Mr. Syllouris's resignation is a one-way street and it is something he should have already done, since he is seen abusing power and covering up illegality. His intention to summon the Minister of the Interior and the Director-General to his office, as well as to contact his counterparts in other countries to find a way to capture the real data, is unacceptable.
2. A number of professionals are pictured admitting to concealing information from the state in order to serve the clients of those professionals. Somewhere here, there may be possible funding for officials or other government officials. The Attorney General must order a criminal investigation to investigate the above.
