The Cyprus Guides Association, in an announcement, complains that the professional team of guides has not been included in the latest package announced by the Government to support those involved in the Tourism Industry.

As mentioned in the Special Support Plan, the guides are absent, although in point 2 it states that the support concerns: "Economic Activities related to the Tourism Industry or Economic Activities which are directly affected by Tourism".

"Guides are in a financial impasse, as are other groups of the population, of course. And since the Government specializes and targets the support efforts and does very well, we believe that the guides should have been included in this support package.

The vast majority of tour guides are self-employed and completely dependent on tourism. They have already lost two quarters of work, while at least the picture of tourism for the third quarter is sad. That is why the support of the guides is a matter of survival ", it is reported.

It is added that the responsible Deputy Minister of Tourism, (July 9, 2020), stressed that due to the closure of the traditional markets of Britain and Israel, things will be particularly difficult in July and probably in August.

The guides claim to be included in the recently announced package and to be supported like the others involved in tourism. They demand the smooth continuation of the special allowances for the next four months, according to the announcements of the Government to support the employees who have been affected, as well as the suspension and relief of tax and other obligations (VAT, Income Tax, Social Insurance) until recovery. of tourism and in particular the profession.
