The strong reaction of the Minister of Finance of Cyprus Konstantinos Petridis, the MEP Loukas Fourlas and representatives of the political world of Cyprus was provoked by the post of the Dutch MP Lian Den Haan, who was in the occupied territories the previous day for an informal meeting with his minister.
According to Ms. Dan Haan in her post, she had an "informal meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Northern Cyprus. An interesting meeting, we talked about tourism in Northern Cyprus and how difficult it is during the Covid pandemic. # ΤΔΒΚ # Κύπρος ».
"Speaking informally, you are ashamed of the institution you represent, its official policy and European values. You support ethnic cleansing and occupation ", says the Minister of Finance of Cyprus Konstantinos Petridis, quoting on his personal Twitter account the relevant post of the Dutch MP.

A similar move was preceded by a move by Democratic Alarm and EPP MEP Luca Fourla, who also quoted the Dutch MP as tweeting.
Lucas Fourlas tweeted to Ms. Hahn that his recent visit was to European territory occupied by Turkey, whose flag is located just behind it. He also stressed that it is a shame for her to talk about "Turkish democracy in northern Cyprus", while calling on her to answer if she knew where she was going.
