The period of analysis of data on deaths from covid19 concerning March 2020 to January 20, 2022, were published by the National Report.

Details:

• As of January 20, 2022, 796 deaths have been reported to the Health Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Health, diagnosed with COVID-19. 63,1% concern men (n = 502 deaths) and the remaining 36,9% concern women (n = 294 deaths)

Of the 796 deaths, 700 (88%) had an underlying cause of the disease COVID-19.

• 62,9% of the total number of deaths due to the underlying disease COVID-19, concerns men (ν = 440 deaths) and the remaining 37,1% concerns women (ν = 260 deaths).

50% of the total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19, concerns people aged 69-85 years, with a median age of death of 78 years and a mean age of 76 years.

• The total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19, during the month of August 2021 (n = 95), exceeded the number of deaths of December 2020 (n = 90) and January 2021 (n = 86). From the beginning of the pandemic until today, the percentage for the three months with the highest numbers, reaches 34% of the total number of deaths.

It is followed by April 2021 with a percentage of 8% (n = 66), the current month (January 2022, until 20/1/2022) with a percentage of 8% (n = 64), May 2021 with a percentage of 7% (n = 59) and July with a percentage of 6% (n = 49).

• During the current month the number of deaths increased by 45% compared to the previous month (December 2021).

• The highest rate of death of people positive for the disease COVID-19, with the underlying cause of death the disease COVID-19, concerns people with permanent residence in the District of Limassol (n = 242, 34.6%). They are followed by the Province of Nicosia (n = 214, 30.6%), the Province of Larnaca (n = 130, 18.6%), the Province of Paphos (n = 64, 9.1%), the Province of Famagusta (n = 40, 5.7%), 7 deaths have Indefinite Province of permanent residence (1.0%) and 3 deaths concern residents abroad (0.4%).

In the year 2021, Limassol has the highest mortality rate per 100000 population (70.4 deaths per 100000 population). It is followed by Famagusta with 67.4 deaths, Larnaca with 61.7 deaths, Paphos with 50.1 deaths and finally Nicosia with 44.3 deaths per 100000 population
