The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth, Mr. Prodromos Prodromou, chaired today a meeting at the Ministry, with representatives of the educational organizations POED, OELMEK and OLTEK and the organized parents.
During the meeting, the Minister of Education informed about the increased measures announced today by the Minister of Health with special reference:
(a) the compulsory use of a protective mask in public places, and therefore the compulsory use of a mask by male and female students during breaks;
(b) the mandatory use of a mask by teachers during teaching with the possibility of being removed only exceptionally, temporarily and for teaching purposes, and
(c) the temporary suspension of all afternoon sports and other extracurricular activities in the provinces of Larnaca and Paphos.
Information was also provided on:
(a) the operation of a central incident management team Covid-19 to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (YPPAN) and for the mechanism that will be developed in cooperation with the school administrations throughout Cyprus and the competent Services of the Ministry of Health, as well as for
(b) the process of monitoring and confirming the faithful implementation of the Health Protocol.
This was followed by a discussion regarding the implementation of protection measures in schools, identified needs, as well as suggestions from educational organizations and organized parents.
It was agreed that a meeting be held with the participation of the Scientific Advisory Group that has been formed in the Ministry of Education.
The meeting also addressed issues related to distance education.
It was finally agreed that regular meetings will be held to monitor the implementation of the Health Protocols.
The meeting, on behalf of the Ministry, was attended by the General Director of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (YPPAN) Mr. Kypros Kyprianou, the Director of Secondary General Education Mr. Kyprianos Louis, the Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education. Markatzis, the Director of Primary Education Mr. Marios Stylianidis and other officials.
