Twenty actors - coaches, presidents and footballers - are under the microscope of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee as of today, as the possibility of a rigged football match of the 4th round of the football championship is being investigated.
As the Chairman of the Committee Andreas Papacharalambous stated to KYPE, the Committee, as it states in its announcement, has today proceeded to issue calls to sports agents in the context of an investigation for possible manipulation of an A-category football match during the 4th match of the championship.
Responding to a question from KYPE, Mr. Papacharalambous said that the Commission had noticed increased betting activity in a specific match, and for this reason it proceeded to its careful monitoring on television to determine whether the suspicions were reasonable. Specifically, Mr. Papacharalambous said that "after we saw the betting activity, we also paid attention to every move of each player".
As Mr. Papacharalambous told KYPE, from now on the Commission with the contribution of the Police will take statements from the persons under investigation, and if necessary, the Commission will obtain arrest warrants from the Police.
The six games that took place in the 4th match are: Hermes-Olympiacos 0-1, Paphos-Ethnikos 2-2, AEL-Karmiotissa 3-1, Omonia-AEK 2-1, Anorthosis-Apollon 1-3, ENP-APOEL 0- 2.
