Le Figaro: The Greeks return to the land and the villages

"The economic crisis is bringing Greeks back to the village," reads the article in the financial pages of the French newspaper Le Figaro. "More than 1,5 million Greeks want to leave the city and return to the province," says the publication, based on research by the Ministry of Development and Food. 

According to Figaro, 2/3 of the Greeks polled in Athens and Thessaloniki, now want to change their lifestyle.

"Most focus on olive cultivation (51,5%), organic cultivation but also aromatic and medicinal plants." "Others are turning to snails again", emphasizes the article which talks about the crisis in Greece, the frightening unemployment rates (51,5 among young people), but also the concentration of Greeks in urban centers.

The article closes with a reference to the "urban migration" of the 50s which now seems to be reversing.
