UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps appeared reassuring on Friday about security concerns in Cyprus following operations from Akrotiri bases targeting the Houthis.

Answering questions from journalists after his meeting with the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis and the Minister of Defense Vassilis Palmas, at the Presidential Palace, Mr. Shaps stated that the Houthi weapons do not pose an immediate danger to Cyprus, since they cannot reach either Israel.

"We want to do everything possible to ensure the security of Cyprus, which is in everyone's interest. We appreciate that you are in a difficult neighborhood and want to do everything possible to make it easier," he said.

In relation to the transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza, he praised the initiative of President Christodoulides and said that options are being considered to provide maximum humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, even more immediately. One of the ways, he said, includes instead of Egypt, sending aid directly to Israel and even through the Kerem Shalom crossing.
