Cyprus and Greece to jointly claim funds from EU Migration and Asylum Pact fund

Cyprus and Greece will jointly claim funds from the EU Migration and Asylum Pact fund, it was agreed today by Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou and Greek Migration and Asylum Minister Dimitris Kairides.

Mr. Ioannou informed Mr. Kairides, with whom he discussed immigration, about the initiative promoted by Cyprus to create a group on the Syrian issue and his intention to send a letter to the states that have expressed interest in further coordination.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Kairides described the initiative as important and conveyed Greece's will to participate in it. Messrs. Ioannou and Kairides also exchanged views on the new Pact on Migration and Asylum and it was agreed to create a Cyprus-Greece team to jointly claim funds through the Pact's new fund.

Ioannou and Kairides met in Delphi, on the sidelines of the 9th Delphi Economic Forum.

During the meeting between the two Ministers, aspects of immigration were discussed. At the same time, Mr. Ioannou informed Mr. Kairides about the initiative promoted by Cyprus to create a group on the Syrian issue and his intention to send a letter to the states that have expressed interest in further coordination. Mr. Kairides described the initiative as important and conveyed Greece's will to participate in it.

The two Ministers also discussed the issue of the increase in migration flows and the need to undertake joint actions for better management. In this context, parameters related to the system of providing material reception conditions and integration procedures were discussed.

Finally, Mr. Ioannou and Mr. Kairides exchanged views on the new Pact on Migration and Asylum and it was agreed to create a Cyprus-Greece team to jointly claim funds through the Pact's new fund.

In his post on X, the Minister of Interior of Cyprus welcomed Greece to the group of EU member states on the issue of Syria.

"We discussed with the Minister of Immigration Dimitris Kairides the increase in immigration flows, the result of various external factors. We agreed on a joint claim for funds from the new fund of the Covenant", said Mr. Ioannou in his post.
