The terms "invasion" and "occupation" in Cyprus cannot be accepted, Mustafa Akinci said provocatively, on the occasion of the tensions in the occupied territories, about the Turkish military operation in Afrin, Syria.
According to reports from the occupied territories, the Turkish Cypriot leader said that the July 15 coup by the fascist junta and Nikos Sampson provoked the intervention of Turkish military forces in 1974, to prevent the unification of Cyprus with Greece.
If not, Akinci claimed, the Turkish operation on July 20, 1974, Cyprus would become an island belonging to Greece and the Turkish Cypriots would become a minority, as is the case with the Turks in western Thrace.
