On the 30th the resolution to renew the mandate of UNFICYP, today the reports.

On January 30, the United Nations Security Council is expected to adopt the resolution for the renewal of the mandate of the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) which expires on January 31, 2024.
The special representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus and head of UNFICYP, Colin Stewart, will brief the representatives of countries that contribute troops and police forces to UNFICYP and the Security Council on January 10 in New York.

According to the preliminary schedule of the work of the Security Council, today, January 3, the UN Secretary General's reports on UNFICYP and its Good Services in Cyprus are expected, while on January 17 consultations on UNFICYP between the Member States will follow to arrive at the text of the resolution which should be adopted on January 30.

It is recalled that, from 2023, the mandate of the UNFICYP mission is renewed on an annual basis and not twice a year as was the practice previously.
