In the elections of June 9, the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus are invited to go to the polls for the election of the members of the European Parliament, the Authorities of Local Government and the Members of School Boards given the new reform of the local government. This reform will also bring drastic changes to the School Boards. In each new municipality, a School Board will operate, which also requires the merger of the school boards in correspondence with the new municipalities. Furthermore, considering that in 2029 the School Boards will be abolished, their work during this 5-year transitional period becomes more important than ever.
Undoubtedly, the role of the School Ephorate is essential for the orderly functioning of schools, because they are called to mediate between the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, parents, teachers and students. At the same time, the cooperation with the school managements (advisory committees), the maintenance and upgrading of the buildings, the securing and management of appropriate equipment, the welfare and safety of the students, the appointment and supervision of auxiliary staff, as well as the provision of facilities for equal access to school are some of the issues he is asked to manage.
It is also noteworthy that the School Ephorate of the Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia, Frenarou, Acheritou - Vrysoulles will have under its responsibility a total of 30 school units, from all levels of education. The task, therefore, that it is called upon to perform is heavy and especially in a constantly changing educational, social, cultural and technological environment which highlights the need, more than ever before, for the School Ephorate to assist in the modernization of school units and to deal with various problems that arise both from everyday school life and from the amalgamation of the new municipalities.
The citizens will also play an important role in this, as they will vote for the members of the school boards. The School Ephorate needs people who have experience, knowledge and participate in the public in matters of education, because they are more aware of the important role they are called to perform and the real needs of the school unit, so that they can work with a vision for a fair and equal upgrade of all schools of our Municipality.
