The strengthening of the air defense systems of Cyprus and surveillance, with the purchase of unmanned aircraft, was announced in advance by the Minister of Defense Christoforos Fokaidis.
The creation of the air operations center, the supply of unmanned aircraft and other systems, said Mr. Fokaidis, are urgent operational needs of the first phase of the reorganization of the National Guard and concern the coverage of immediate needs for the security of the country.
He added that they are also expected to play an important role in promoting Cyprus as a security contributor and hub for humanitarian operations in the wider region.
Mr. Fokaidis was speaking at an event at Paphos Air Base, about the celebrations of the patron saint of aviation, Archangel Michael.
