The aim is to maximize the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Foreign Minister Dr. Konstantinos Kombos said today, speaking to reporters after the opening of a meeting on Thursday of senior officials from 36 countries and international organizations at the Zeno Coordination Center. in Larnaca.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Kombos said the high-level meeting is focused on the organizational issues of the Amalthia project, and is attended by representatives from 36 countries, the G7 countries, the United Nations with various agencies, the EU and NGOs.
"The purpose today is, on the one hand, to see how the organizational level can be strengthened, the possibility both at the point of departure and in terms of strengthening the waterways, as well as in terms of receiving and distributing aid," he noted.
In addition, the creation of the "Amalthia" fund will be discussed in order to be able to provide the necessary financial support required for the continued operation of this effort, he added.
He also said that due to the weather conditions in Gaza, the second ship is expected to leave towards the end of the week or early next week.
