With the Most Venerable Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Basilio met on Thursday at the Holy Diocese of Constantia and Famagusta, the President of the Democratic Alarm Mr. Averof Neophytou, in the context of his ongoing contacts on the threats of Turkey for illegal settlement of Famagusta.
The President of the Democratic Alarm was accompanied by the Member of Parliament and Vice President Mr. George Georgiou, the MPs Mr. Onoufrios Koulla and Mr. George Karroulas and the Director of Administration and Organization of the party Mr. George Lyssandridis. After the meeting, Mr. Neophytou stressed the following:
"As part of our coordinated effort to raise awareness both at home and abroad on the issue of Varosia, today we had a meeting with the Most Venerable Mr. Vassilios. As a Democratic Alarm we will defend Famagusta, we will do everything in our power not to let the Turkish plans for the settlement of Famagusta pass. It is obvious what Ankara is seeking. Through the settlement of Famagusta, to torpedo the effort to resume substantive negotiations.
"We at the Democratic Alarm also want a comprehensive, just solution to the Cyprus problem, and we are resisting any action by Ankara, through the settlement of Varos to torpedo the new effort announced by the UN Secretary General."
