Renault has unveiled a new prototype model which, according to the recommendations, will result in a corresponding production version with a horizon of 2021.
Aesthetically, the Megane eVision draws its influence from the charming Morphoz prototype unveiled last March, but even more important than its design is the combination of the Megane name with purely electric technology and a crossover body that defines a different future for the Megane.
The hatchback model has consistently been one of Renault's most popular models for over 25 years, but given the SUV frenzy and the current concept car, the future is more adventurous for the Megane.
Indicative is the statement of the head of Renault Luca de Meo who calls eVision, a reinvention of the classic hatchback.
"We are driving our best-seller for 25 years into the future. Megane eVision reinvents Megane and Renault reinvents Renault. And this is just the beginning. "A new generation of electric models will follow, which will be full of innovations", he stated characteristically.
Despite the more imposing appearance due to the increased distance from the ground and the design features that refer to an SUV, the eVision has more compact dimensions than the Megane except of course the height. In more detail, its dimensions are summarized in 4,21 meters in length, 1,8 m in width and a wheelbase of 2,7 meters, ie they are almost analogous to the Captur.
In terms of features, eVision is based on the CMF-EV architecture that evolved within the Renault-Nissan alliance, which has been designed from the ground up based on electric propulsion. The new platform houses an extremely compact 60 KWh lithium-ion battery as well as a limited-sized electric motor.
The electric motor promises 217 hp and 300 Nm of torque and drives the front axle. Acceleration from 0-100 km / h requires, according to the recommendations, less than eight seconds.
Regarding the critical size of the autonomy, although Renault does not currently disclose data, it describes the production version of the Megane eVision as a car that can travel a distance from the outskirts of Paris to Lyon with a single charge, something that in absolute sizes translates to a range of 445 km.
