The two youths, aged 17 and 18, who were injured in a road collision in Ayia Napa, were not wearing protective helmets, with the 17-year-old motorcycle driver being treated in a critical condition at the Nicosia General Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

In his statements, Steve Theodoulou, press representative of the Famagusta Police Department, said that "around 10.30:21 in the evening of Sunday, April 18, a road collision occurred in Ayia Napa. According to the data that the Police have before them, a motorcycle driven by an 17-year-old man from Ayia Napa, on Cabo Greco Avenue in the direction of Ayia Napa, with a XNUMX-year-old man from Paralimni as a co-passenger, at some point on the road, despite the passage towards Kryo Nero, under circumstances that are being investigated, he lost control of the motorcycle causing it to overturn."

He added that "from the collision, both young men were injured, with the 17-year-old passenger being more seriously injured. The 18-year-old driver was taken to a private clinic in Ayia Napa and was found to have broken ribs and lacerations in various parts of his body and was detained for observation."

The 17-year-old passenger "was transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Famagusta in Paralimni where it was found that he has a severe brain injury and after being intubated he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, with his condition being described as critical".

As Mr. Theodoulou said, "the 18-year-old driver was tested for alcohol with a zero reading as well as a drug test with a negative result. Police investigations revealed that the two young men were not wearing a protective helmet, while the 18-year-old did not hold a driver's license and was not covered by insurance."
