The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Maria Panagiotou, toured the province of Famagusta on April 25, 2024, accompanied by a group consisting of Mr. Andreas Grigoriou, Director General of the Ministry and Mr. Makis Antoniadis, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture.
In this context, he also visited the offices of the Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paralimni, resulting in the information and exchange of positions and opinions on various issues that the Chamber raised for discussion. (a relevant memorandum was delivered to the Minister by the Chamber).
The Minister was welcomed by a delegation of the Chamber headed by its President, Mr. Charalambos Manolis who presided over the meeting. Businessmen from Famagusta District were also present.
Among the topics on the agenda are the illegal sale of potatoes produced in other countries as Cypriot in the Greek market and the problems/obstacles to the development of the Famagusta District with the delay of the reconstruction project of the Liopetriou River, with the limitations based on the Strategic Environmental Impact Study of the currently being prepared Local Paralimni - Ayia Napa - Deryneia Plan and the absence of state support. In addition, a report was made by the Chamber about the need for more information about the Ministry's Grant Plans and about new legislation that falls under its action.
Ahead of her tour of Famagusta District, earlier the same day, the Minister visited the Liopetriou fishing sanctuary. The Chamber of Famagusta was represented in the visit by the former President of the Chamber and member of the Board of Directors, Mr. Giorgos Mavroudis.
