When in Cyprus there were only 364 cars and 64 motorcycles…

Once upon a time on our island everything was different…

There were no roads, the means of transport were donkeys, camels, carriages and carriages (carriages were like a cart pulled by oxen).
In 1907 the first car came to Cyprus and in 1923 they circulated on the island: 364 registered cars, 64 motorcycles while there were 738 people who had a driver's license.

In 1923 there was the first car accident in Cyprus…

It was in Nicosia and specifically in Agios Dometios that resulted in the death of a person. The driver of the other car was sentenced to 6 months in prison and his license revoked.
Around 1980, the first fatal accident in Cyprus was recorded. On the old road Larnaca - Kofinou, just outside the village Anglisides, a vehicle was found which after a traffic accident had turned into an amorphous mass of ironwork. In the morning, passers-by called the police who when they arrived at the spot realized that there were people inside the vehicle. Members of the fire brigade who were called for release, pulled 5 dead from the vehicle. From then until today, unfortunately, there are countless victims that our country counts on the asphalt.
