The Achna Community Council for the Crocodile Park, which is being considered for creation in the Community, is expected to make its decision today.
The Community Council in today's session is expected to take a positive or negative position on the proposal of the Israeli company that seeks to create a crocodile park in the degraded area "Politsi" in the Dead Zone of occupied Achna.
In yesterday's report, the newspaper "O Fileleftheros" reports that "a large majority of the residents remain uninvolved" in the creation of the park, while a small group, through social media, expresses disagreement.
What seems to be enticing the Community Council, according to the information, is the development that will contribute positively to the degraded area "Politsi", in the dead zone of the occupied Achna, near the destroyed Achna Police Station.
According to the community leader of Achna, Nikos Vasilas, so far the climate of consensus is maintained, which was agreed from the beginning to prevail in the management of the issue.
At the same time, however, some community councilors have raised the issue of strong safeguards for the interests of the community, through legally binding documents.
According to information, the community leader Nikos Vassilas called the legal advisers of the House, who presented these documents. Among other things, the following are provided, in case the community will give a positive answer to the competent government agencies, the following:
- Deposit of a large amount of bank guarantee, so that in case of bankruptcy or for another reason suspension of the operation of the state, the community will receive this amount.
- Determining the annual amount to be paid to the community, as compensation for hosting this activity.
- Involvement of the community in the control of the company regarding the activities of the crocodile park. That is, there will be no breeding or marketing of crocodile meat and skin.
- Legal protection of the privilege of the community as the inhabitants of the village have the first priority in the recruitment of workers in the park (approximately 25 to 40 jobs).
- Implement strict security measures in the perimeter of the park and constantly inform the community from time to time on this sensitive issue.
Meanwhile, the Israeli company, through its legal advisers, intends to take legal action against a specific person in connection with the dissemination of "false and misleading information about the project".
In another development, a small portion of the community in collaboration with environmental organizations reacting to the creation of a crocodile park in Cyprus, reportedly prepare in the coming days for protests around the issue, depending of course on the decision of the Achnas Community Council next Tuesday.
Although, according to the newspaper, "some community councilors have raised the issue of strong safeguards for the interests of the community, through legal documents and legal advisers have been called in, the Ecologists 'Movement - Citizens' Cooperation is taking its own initiatives in this regard." .
According to an announcement in the press, the Green Party is in favor of the development of the crocodile park in Achna, which it describes as extremely worrying. "Every environmentally sensitive citizen of the country should be concerned about both the expediency and the consequences of such a project," he said. The Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation has from the beginning pointed out its complete disagreement with this form of projects as it emphasizes, talking about a distortion of vision as they are considered as developmental for the regions.
The Movement believes that the Community Council of the settlement of Achnas will carefully examine the data, before concluding its position. "We are already in contact with the Community Council and in a dialogue for full environmental information", the announcement concludes.
