Specifically, shortly after 5.00 am today, the members of the TAE Famagusta who participated in the operation, noticed the 24-year-old moving suspiciously towards the residential complex, in the area of Agia Napa. A member of the TAE identified the 24-year-old as the person allegedly involved in a burglary committed on October 02, in a second residential complex, also in Ayia Napa, as well as the person who, on October 02 and 03, wandered suspiciously between residences of the first residential complex. Evidence for the description of the specific suspect, whose identity remained unknown, emerged from the investigation of burglaries and thefts committed at the two complexes.

TAE members placed the 24-year-old suspect under surveillance, who entered the housing complex and then attempted to break into one of the residences. The members of the Police proceeded to stop and control the suspect, who refused to present his identity information. During the check, in a shoulder bag that he was carrying, among other items, a wallet containing the sum of 2,500 euros and a mobile phone were found, while a watch was also found in his possession.

After the suspect did not provide a satisfactory explanation of the origin of the items found, he was arrested for the first-degree offense of illegal possession of property. During his arrest, he pushed one of the police officers and tried to escape, but was immediately stopped and arrested for the offenses of assaulting a police officer and resisting lawful arrest.

The 24-year-old was then taken to the offices of the TAE Famagusta for police examinations. Upon verifying his information, the members of the Police proceeded to arrest him for the spontaneous crime of illegal stay in the Republic, since as it was established, he has been illegally in the Republic since January, 2021, when his temporary residence permit expired .

Interrogated by the members of the TAE Famagusta, the 24-year-old suspect allegedly confessed to committing 25 house burglaries and thefts, which were committed in residential complexes in Ayia Napa, in the last period of time, while he also made suggestions of scenes of burglaries that he allegedly committed. In a search of his residence, members of the Police found property that is being investigated as to whether it had been stolen during the burglaries under investigation.

Among the items found is a watch worth 150 euros, which was stolen after a house burglary in one of the complexes. The theft had been reported to the TAE of Famagusta by the occupants of the residence. A number of mobile phones, watches and jewellery, electrical and electronic devices, sunglasses, perfumes and bags were also found.

With the arrest of the 24-year-old and the discovery of the stolen property, 25 house burglaries and thefts that had been reported to the Famagusta Police Department are close to being solved. It is expected that tomorrow the Police will request the issuance of a court order for the arrest of the suspect, for the purposes of investigating the cases of burglary and theft, with the Famagusta Police Station continuing the examinations, including the examinations for the identification of the found stolen goods by their owners.
