They are warning of an indefinite strike that the dialysis workers of the Famagusta District will go on strike on May 12, if their demands are not met, as stated in a relevant letter which, according to the president of the dialysis clinics, George Kezo, has been sent to OKYPY.

In the letter, Mr. Kezos expresses his concern for the non-satisfaction of the requests of the dialysis patients, which are as stated the urgent need for hiring a second nephrologist so that there is an on-call doctor at the dialysis unit at Famagusta Hospital, the market machines to make better treatments and the expansion of the unit because, as he states, other diseases can no longer be served in the existing space.

Also, in the letter, the President of the dialysis unit of Famagusta District expresses his fear that if the requests of the existing doctor are not met, there is a possibility that the dialysis unit will leave and close.

The letter is as follows:

After my regret I would like to express my concern and intense anxiety for the non-satisfaction of the requests of the dialysis patients.

The Dialysis Unit works with only one doctor only on weekdays until 3.00 in the afternoon. The rest of the days, weekends and holidays are covered on call by the on-duty doctor of Hemodialysis G.N. Larnaca. If in the event of an emergency it takes 45 minutes for the patient to arrive and be evaluated by a doctor he may not catch up and die on the way.

It is imperative to hire a second nephrologist so that there is an on-call nephrologist at night in the Hemodialysis Unit GN. Famagusta.

Also the number of patients is increasing rapidly and dialysis must be done until the morning (24h) to serve all patients in the province of Famagusta in our hospital.

Existing dialysis machines are many years old and need to be purchased new to make treatments better.

Finally, the expansion of this Hemodialysis Unit (10 machines only) is a great need because other patients can no longer be served in this existing space.

On May 12, the bloodthirsty people of Famagusta go on strike indefinitely if their above demands are not met. If the doctor's requests are not met, there is a possibility that she will leave and the Hemodialysis Unit will close.

Sincerely Yours

George Kezos

President of the Famagusta Dialysis Center
