The arrest of 4 illegal immigrants from Syria was carried out today by members of the TAE Famagusta to facilitate the investigations in relation to a new arrival of immigrants yesterday afternoon, in the sea area of Cabo Greco.
Specifically yesterday around 19:00 in the afternoon, a wooden boat about 23 meters long with 10 illegal immigrants on board was stopped by the Coastal Police 95 nautical miles southeast of Cabo Greco.
On the same day and around 19:25 p.m., a port police boat intercepted a second smaller boat at 16 nautical miles with 19 illegal immigrants on board.
Following instructions, the two boats were taken to the Port of Larnaca and were guarded by members of the police. A total of 113 irregular migrants were on board the two boats, including 78 men, 9 women, 15 children and 11 unaccompanied minors.
Those questioned stated that they started on 17/7/23 from Tartus, Syria after paying each of them the amount of 2500-3500 US dollars.
From the interrogation, testimony was secured against 4 persons that they were the navigators of the boats and they were arrested by the TAE of Famagusta to facilitate the interrogations. the remaining migrants were transferred to the Temporary Hospitality Center in Pournara.
