The assessment that seriousness and composure are needed for the solution of any issue was expressed by the President of DISY Averof Neophytou, since, as he said, decisions that are the result of emotion and reaction of the moment "cost" local communities and the country ". He added that "we need responsibility for cheap and irresponsible populism."

In statements after a visit to the Reference Hospital in Paralimni, Mr. Neophytou said that "we won the battle of the pandemic and congratulations to the medical, nursing staff, epidemiologists and those who fought the battle every day. However, the pandemic gave us the opportunity to develop our infrastructure in the field of health "since, as he explained," the Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni "is being expanded to become a special wing for the pandemic".

He added that “in tomorrow's Recovery Fund for Cyprus, more than 75 million will be given in addition to the funds for GESS and OAY and OKYPY, to improve the infrastructure in the health sector. "I am optimistic for our country, we know how to win battles and we have won a battle compared to the whole world and Europe," he said. He noted that "our country is one of the best countries in managing the pandemic pan-European and global."

He must, he continued, "the Cypriot citizen should feel proud. We are ready with our sleeves on to win another difficult battle, the battle of the economy. But there is a danger because there is a stake in these elections, "he said, adding that" we need seriousness and a stable pillar for the country's credibility. We need responsibility for cheap and irresponsible populism. "

The President of DISY also said that "we need a Parliament that supports the reforms, not a Parliament of denial that will function as 'manly'" as he characteristically said "in the progress of the country".

Mr. Neophytou gave the example of the fact that "when it was first heard that the Reference Hospital would be in the free province of Famagusta, both the Mayor of Paralimni and I personally, were accepted by ordinary people who thought that this would be against the area. I thank the Municipality of Paralimni for showing understanding and after a year it turns out that what the local community thought would harm the interests of the area, has been turned into a positive weapon in restarting the economy ".

He also sent the message to society "not to be carried away by emotions, by reactions of the moment. "We need seriousness and calmness for any issue, decisions as a result of emotion and reaction of the moment cost in local communities, they cost in the country as well" he said and noted "seriousness in all issues".

Theodoros Pyrillis - Mayor of Paralimni

For his part, the Mayor of Paralimni, Theodoros Pyrillis, said that "we are completely happy because the Referral Hospital acquires another 40 beds in two weeks, a cost of the state amounting to 2 million euros. This means that we will have a 40-bed unit exclusively for coronavirus for the next 2, 3 or 4 years for as long as the pandemic lasts ".

He added that "the rest of the Hospital is getting back to normal very soon, since that was our main goal. While some thought that the Famagusta Hospital would not succeed, nevertheless it did famously both from a scientific and medical point of view, as well as from the point of view of securing the inhabitants of the free province of Famagusta ".

He described the expansion of the hospital as "a very, very strong element that we must keep." When travel agencies ask us how we handle the pandemic, and tell them that the Referral Hospital is just five minutes away from where their customers are staying, "he said," it closes and is a very serious advantage in attracting tourism. "

The Mayor of Paralimni also thanked "the Government of President Anastasiadis because it is the first Government that for 47 years has recognized the provincial status of these areas with all the rights we have and we thank them warmly. "Without them, we would probably be in the dormancy we were in ten years ago."

Amalia Hatzigianni - Scientific Director of Famagusta General Hospital

Besides, the Scientific Director of the Reference Hospital Amalia Hatzigianni stated that "the occupancy of the Hospital decreased to 33% and the reduction of cases and admissions is clearly due to vaccinations. "Everyone should run to the nearest Vaccination Centers to be vaccinated in order to save the supreme good that is our health, to save those next to us and for the people to finally return to their normalcy".

He added that "the staff of the Famagusta Hospital and the province have made superhuman sacrifices in the last 14 months, waiting to be vindicated". "The expansion of the General Hospital was a dream come true for me," he said, thanking everyone involved, including the Minister of Health, "for this divine gift he offers to our province."

He also noted that "with the expansion of the Hospital, the remaining floors are freed to accommodate all the other patients. The sacrifices of all of us have paid off and I am satisfied with this project that will benefit the whole province of Famagusta ".

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "we won the staffing of the Hospital with a lot of effort and both the Minister of Health and the General Director of the Ministry were constantly by our side and supported us."

He also said that "in the last year we have gained 27 new doctors, since despite the departure of doctors they have been replaced in favor, while with the expansion of the building will be able to develop new specialties that have never existed in the province of Famagusta. There is also a plan to bring medical tourism to the General Hospital of Famagusta ".
