The President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, stated today that any damage suffered by farmers due to the weather conditions is being addressed immediately, while expressing the Government's sensitivity to the issue.
In the morning, the President received in his office the Commissioner of the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization, Timi Efthymiou, and was informed about the payment of the hectare subsidy for 2019, while also receiving the annual report of the Commissioner.
President Anastasiadis congratulated Mr. Efthymiou on the timely payment of the hectare subsidy and the various allowance programs, saying that this also contributes to tackling the various financial problems of farmers.
He further referred to the recent disasters caused by the weather, saying that "the government is consistently responding immediately to any damage suffered by farmers".
He said the introduction of the new agricultural insurance reform is an important factor, adding that compensation for the losses suffered by farmers is being paid immediately and in a timely manner.
He spoke of a "vulnerable group" and a "creative presence sector" which, he said, should be encouraged. "That is why the Government's sensitivity to respond immediately to any weather disasters similar to the ones we are facing, either now or in the near future." times ", he noted.
For his part, Mr. Efthymiou said that this is the fifth time that KOAP manages to pay the money before Christmas, which amounted to 55 million euros, while another 20 million were related to investment programs.
He also said that the planning for the new year begins and the goal will be exactly the same, that is, the payment of subsidies next December before Christmas.
