The concern with which the British government is monitoring the situation in Varosia, pointed out the Undersecretary of State James Cleverley.
He was responding to a written parliamentary question from North London-based Cypriot MP Teresa Villiers on the occasion of Turkish President Erdogan's visit to the region.
In particular, the MP of the ruling Conservative Party had asked Foreign Minister Dominic Raab whether he intends to make appearances for this visit to his Turkish counterpart.
Undertaking to respond, Mr. Cleverley said that "before President Erdogan's visit to the island we made representations to Turkey through our embassy in Ankara. The Foreign Minister raised the issue of Varosia during his phone call with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar on November 12 and will discuss it with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoγlu on November 19 (ss: Mr. Clever's response the Raab-Tsavousoglou communication on the same day) ".
The British Foreign Secretary added that "the United Kingdom continues to be a strong supporter of the numerous Security Council Resolutions covering the issue of Varos, in particular the 550 (1984) and 789 (1992). "The issue underlines the importance of achieving a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem as a matter of urgency."
