The Municipality of Famagusta expressed its strong reaction through an announcement for the campaign carried out by the Tourism Development and Promotion Company of the province, which has as its slogan: "Famagusta is your summer".
The announcement denounces the use of the name of Famagusta for commercial purposes, which aim to promote the area of the province of Famagusta, while there is also talk of "damage to the race"
"Famagusta, unfortunately, is not your summer this year either!", It is mentioned in a Press Release of the occupied Municipality.
The Press Release states that the Municipality of Famagusta for the umpteenth time emphasizes the following:
1. Famagusta remains under our occupation for 46 years, with most of it being colonized and becoming more and more Turkish over time and the rest of it being fenced under the strict control of the occupying Turkish army. Unfortunately, Famagusta has not seen us since the summer since 1974 and as the situation is, it seems that it will not see it this year either.
2. The use of the name of Famagusta for commercial, communication or other purposes by persons and / or institutions other than the legal representatives of the city, unfortunately causes great confusion and incalculable damage in the struggle we are waging to keep alive the memory of the occupied of our city. It also causes anger and frustration to all of us when we see that with great ease some people, for their own reasons and not out of ignorance, delete our city in a hopeless attempt to highlight their local community as a substitute for Famagusta that has been groaning for so many years.
3. At a time when Turkey is threatening Famagusta with new accomplishments, our citizens and the Municipality of the city expect from everyone the support and encouragement and not the, fortunately from some and a few, undermining of our struggle.
4. As a Municipality of Famagusta, we are glad to see the development of all areas of Cyprus, and we are particularly pleased with the development and progress of the Free Province of Famagusta, to which we also feel that we belong. In fact, we look forward to the time when we will all be able to work together again for the prosperity of our entire province in a free and reunited homeland.
5. The Municipality of Famagusta in its next session will discuss the issue again to draw up a strategy for its final and definitive solution so that it can remain focused on the great effort to return to our city, which is perhaps the one and only move to avoid the division of our homeland.
