Focusing on the Turkish threats for the illegal opening of Varos and the developments in the Cyprus issue, the President of the Democratic Alarm Mr. Averof Neophytou, accompanied by the Deputy President Mr. Harry Georgiadis and the Parliamentary Spokesperson Mr. to the five permanent members of the Security Council. In his statements to journalists, the President of the Democratic Alarm stressed the following:

"We continue today with the Ambassadors of the five permanent members of the Security Council, our information about Famagusta. It is important that messages are sent through the ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council, that any illegal action of the occupying troops for the settlement of Famagusta, essentially puts to sleep the new effort announced by the Secretary General to resume the dialogue with his intention to convening a five-party conference after the elections in the occupied territories. We send the message once again both inside and outside. "We remain committed to the resumption of the dialogue with the aim of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, as set out in all the resolutions of both the Security Council and the UN General Assembly."

Asked whether President Neophytos' initiative to meet with the Ambassadors of the five permanent members of the SA is part of an initiative for the resumption of talks and a solution to the Cyprus problem, Mr. Neophytou replied.

"This effort was launched two weeks ago by the Democratic Alarm for information and our initiative for Varosia. However, since the Secretary General himself determined the resumption of the dialogue immediately after the elections in the occupied territories, surely our discussion will not be limited only to Varosia but also to the overall settlement of the Cyprus problem ".

Asked about the veto of Cyprus in the Council of Foreign Ministers, Mr. Neophytou answered:

"We will clearly state the position of the Democratic Alarm. The EU must not deviate in matters of principle. "As a Democratic Alarm, we agree on sanctions against an authoritarian regime such as Belarus, but also sanctions against a regime in Ankara that does not respect international law and violates the sovereign rights of EU member states."
