The last farewell will be said by relatives, friends and associates to Alexis Galanos, who passed away on July 15 at the age of 78.
The Mayor of Famagusta “passed away” while he was on vacation on the island of Kos. Their death plunged the refugee world of Famagusta into mourning.
According to the autopsy findings, his death was due to an acute myocardial infarction.
The funeral of Alexis Galanos will be held tomorrow at 17:00 in the afternoon, at the Holy Temple of God Wisdom in Strovolos.
The family will receive condolences at the church, from 15:30 until 17:00 in the afternoon.
The burial will take place in the Municipal Cemetery of Engomi.
Famagusta Mayor Chrysanthos Zannettos recently stated that at an extraordinary session of the Famagusta Municipal Council, "it was decided to declare a 40-day mourning period during which the flags in the buildings of the Municipality of Famagusta in Limassol and the Cultural Center in Demisti will be buried."
It was also decided that “the funeral of Alexis Galanos will be held at the expense of the Municipality of Famagusta and it will be attended by the Municipal Council of Famagusta and the staff of the Municipality. The offices of the Municipality of Famagusta and the Cultural Center will remain closed on the day of the funeral, while Books of Condolence will be opened for government officials and the public at the offices of the Municipality of Famagusta in Limassol, the Cultural Center of the Municipality in Deryneia and the Union Offices in Nicosia".
