Tree planting in memory of the former President Alexis Galanos, was carried out by the Committee of Occupied Municipalities, on Saturday, January 18 in the Academy Park in Aglantzia, in collaboration with the Department of Forests.
According to today's announcement, the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Petros Kareklas praised the work and personality of Alexis Galanos, noting that his name has gone down in history as one of the important political figures of the place that served the public.
Mrs. Alexandra Galanou expressed the family's emotion for this beautiful initiative of the Occupied Municipalities which, as she stated, "would give great joy to Alexis who will see us from above".
The event was held under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Costas Kadis, who was represented by the Director of the Department of Forests, Charalambos Alexandrou, due to his absence abroad for official reasons.
Members of the Committee of Occupied Municipalities, Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Municipal Councilors, as well as state officials, attended the commemoration of Alexis Galanos with his family. Among them, the President of DISY, Averof Neophytou, the deputies Dimitris Dimitriou and George Karoullas, Petros Pasias on behalf of the CoE. of AKEL, representative of the Ecologists' Movement, the Mayor of Aglantzia, Charalambos Petridis as well as other officials and citizens.
In total, more than 55 trees were planted in the area indicated by the Forest Department.
