The readiness of the Municipality of Famagusta for a fight to prevent the Turkish plans for the city of Famagusta was reaffirmed on Thursday night (5/9), during the first official session of the municipal council, under the newly elected Mayor, Simos Ioannou.
In his statements after the meeting, at the City Hall of Famagusta, in Limassol, Mr. Ioannou reminded that the measures decided include a visit of a delegation of the Municipality in Brussels, the second ten days of October, where a meeting was requested with the President of the of parties.
He also continued, next Wednesday a meeting will be held with the Coordinating Committee of Associations and Organizations of Famagusta, "where new measures will be decided", while on September 16 (0930), a delegation of the Municipality will meet with the President of the Republic, where asked that the issue of Famagusta be raised at the UN General Assembly, "something he has told us he will raise".
"There may be an appeal to the United Nations, but we will see how the talks go and I hope they succeed and it is not necessary," he added.
He also mentioned that a proposal has been proposed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to set up a committee, in cooperation with EVEA, to register the properties of the Famagusta people, while he reminded that meetings with Ambassadors of foreign countries are planned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was also decided, as during the anti-occupation event on September 14, at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Famagusta, in Deryneia, to hang banners with the slogan "Down with the hands from Famagusta" and as Mr. Ioannou said "this is what we will ask from its teams Famagusta, Anorthosis and Nea Salamina, together with the opposing team, to have the slogan on the field and for the fans to hold placards ".
