The Famagusta Chamber of Commerce and Industry requested the intervention of the President of the Republic and the competent Minister for the development of the tug "Othello, one of the three that served the port of Famagusta until 1974.

A written announcement of EBE Famagusta states that the Chamber has requested the intervention of the President of the Republic and the competent Minister, so as not to destroy the tug "Othello", but to be used for historical and educational purposes, noting that this is part of history of Cyprus and especially of the port and shipping industry of occupied Famagusta ".

It is added that "the tug" Othello "was acquired in 1966 by a British ship and took its name from the homonymous gate of Othello on the walls of the gate of Famagusta. It was one of the three tugs that served the main, until 1974 port of Cyprus, that of Famagusta ".

The ship, it is noted, "was rescued in 1974 on the initiative of Captain Andreas Kyriakos and other members of its crew, amid fire from Turkish warships and the Turkish air force. After many adventures, the boat sailed to the port of Larnaca in mid-September 1974, where for the next 19 years it was the main tug of the port ".

The Chamber "submitted opinions regarding the place where the boat can be placed, in a way that attributes its historical value and its connection with Famagusta. The final location will be decided in consultation with the Ministry of Transport, the Municipality of Famagusta and other bodies of the city ".

The announcement also states that "EBE Famagusta expects a positive response from the government."
