The Municipality of Famagusta in collaboration with the Library of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) launched today, September 18, a campaign for the collection of photographs from Famagusta.
Under the title "LIGHT IN THE LIGHT OF FAMAGUSTA!" The campaign aims to create a photo archive of Famagusta through crowdsourcing.
A group has been created on the Facebook platform with the title "LIGHT IN THE LIGHT OF FAMAGUSTA!" where members will be able to upload photos from Famagusta before the 1974 Turkish invasion.
As the Municipality of Famagusta states in its announcement, “the photographic material that we all have in our possession is an invaluable asset of our city. Each photo has its own unique value and the contribution of TEPAK with its huge know-how will help catalyze the creation of an archive of the history of our city. So with simple and easy steps we record our history through the precious photos that each of us has in his possession. ”
Upload photos in simple steps:
Step 1: We connect with the Facebook group "LIGHT IN THE LIGHT OF FAMAGUSTA!"
Step 2: We upload (upload) our photo
Step 3: In the comments we write useful information such as:
• date / year,
• names of people shown in the photo,
• location where the photo was taken (eg church of Agia Zoni, Association of Anorthosis, Municipal Stadium of Famagusta, Municipal Market, Hotel Constantia, Labyrinth Discotheque, etc.)
• event (eg Orange Festival, Flower Shops, Anorthosis - Nea Salamina match, etc.)
• other useful information.
The Municipality of Famagusta invites us, therefore, to a journey through time, to a record of the glorious history of Famagusta through images, to the creation of a photographic heritage for the new generation of Famagusta, in a work that the old will remember and the young will learn .
