The President of the Democratic Alarm Mr. Averof Neophytou had today the second round of meetings with Lawyers and Academics and focusing on Famagusta and the legal aspects, accompanied by the Parliamentary Representative Mr. Nikos Tornaritis, the Vice President and the Vice President Mr. George Karoullas and Mr. Kyriakos Hatzigiannis. The "present" at the meeting were given by the Lawyers and Academics, Mr. Eric Montanios, Mr. Achilleas Dimitriadis, Mrs. Eleni Zouvani, Mr. Stelios Perrakis, Mr. Aris Konstantinidis, Mr. Charalambos Kompos, Mr. Christos Galan Nikos Makridis, Mr. Panagiotis Dimitriou, member of the Cypriot team of the President, Mr. Rikos Mappouridis, member of the legal advisory team of the Democratic Alarm and Mr. Kris Triantaphyllidis, Chairman of the Legal Council of the Democratic Alarm.

After the meeting, the President of the Democratic Alarm stressed the following:

"For us at the Democratic Alarm, the Cyprus issue was and remains primarily a political issue. That is why we had and still have the clear position to resume the dialogue as soon as possible, to find a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem based on European law in the model of the agreed basis of the Bi-Zonal Bicommunal Federation.
At the same time, however, we are examining, hearing opinions from experts, constitutional scholars and lawyers and academics on some legal aspects that have to do with the closed city of Varosia.
We are not omniscient as politicians, we must listen to the different views and beyond to make the right decisions and not run afterwards. "I want to thank the academics, the lawyers, the constitutionalists, the great scientists for their contribution to the legal point of view, although there are different approaches between them, and that is why we have to take all the views into account."

Asked by a journalist that tomorrow the President of the Republic will inform at the Summit about the challenges of Turkey that opened part of the beach of Varosia and there is on the table this dilemma from Europe for sanctions against Turkey and if we expect something different, Mr. Neophytou answered:

"Look, the conclusions of the last European Council gave the opportunity and the window of hope for the resumption of the dialogue, but also the opportunity for our partners in Europe to live what they have been living for decades. The aggression and unreliability of Turkey. As an example, yesterday's right decision of the German Foreign Minister to cancel his planned trip to Ankara. In recent days, both the European partners and the State Department clearly understand that we are dealing with a ruthless, provocative Erdogan who thinks that he will impose his views by the so-called power and violation of international law. It is very important for us, that what we felt and believed and experienced, is slowly becoming property today due to the overt behavior of Turkey and our partners in Europe. "We must remain focused if he changes his mind and abandons provocation and aggression and respects international law and the European authorities to strive for a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem."
