The President of the Democratic Alarm, Mr. Averof Neophytou, was in Paralimni today, where, accompanied by the Mayor Mr. Pyrillis, the Member of Parliament Mr. Kyriakos Hatzigiannis and the Vice President Mr. George Georgiou, he had the opportunity to talk to residents. In his statements in Paralimni, Mr. Neophytou stressed the following:
"Friend, Mayor of Paralimni, another day in Paralimni, but I do not intend to go down as Mayor of Paralimni. Together with you and the rest of the local government, we will make sure that the reform passes for the good of the whole of the free area of Famagusta. Today I am in Paralimni and I am happy because the tourism businesses in October as I have been informed are at the levels of October 2019. It is a great success for our place. It is a blessing to see full restaurants, to see full hotels, to see people busy. At the same time, I visited both corrupt associations in the area, I recorded the anxieties and the problems, we will see them together with the government how we can support the primary sector of the economy ".
For his part, Mr. Pyrillis stated the following:
"We have before us the reform of the local self-government next month. A very important bill which will give new impetus to the Municipalities but will also significantly improve the quality of life of the citizens. I also ask on behalf of the Union of Municipalities to proceed with the voting of the reform for the benefit of the citizens, the quality of life, the proper operation and the development. We believe that in the free province of Famagusta, the creation of a single municipality is what will bring the desired result. And let me mention that in the period 2013-2019, when the province was all united, we had raised 11,3% of the state development budget. In 2021 we have raised 3,3%. That says a lot. When we were united we succeeded, today we have begun to regress. May God enlighten us all to do what we have to do for our place, our province and not for our chairs at the expense of the citizens ".
