Chelco VAT Ltd's Senior Tax Advisor, Panagiotis Panagi, recently obtained the Expert in European Value Added Tax degree and with the highest score of the year.
After two years of teaching in Belgium and Barcelona, a dissertation on the treatment of Value Added Tax (VAT) in the responsible companies, and after four hours of written and oral examinations, Mr. Panagi was the first to obtain a degree in his class. Mr Panagi is now one of only 58 top taxpayers in indirect taxation in the world who have achieved their coveted degree, including Chelco VAT CEO Alexis Tsielepis.
The Expert in European VAT degree focuses on the European Union (EU) VAT Directive, the way it is applied in all Member States and the relevant judgments of the European Court of Justice. The degree is only available to experienced indirect tax advisors.
It is taught and awarded by the VAT Forum, an international partnership of leading professionals in the field of indirect taxation, which was founded in 1999.
"It has been two very difficult years of hard work and I am very happy that my efforts have been rewarded to the fullest," Mr Panagi said shortly after the graduation ceremony in Brussels on October 5, 2017.
“This program gave me the opportunity and the tools to develop as a professional VAT consultant at a level I never thought was possible when I started this journey. I am proud to be part of the Chelco VAT team, which encourages and supports its staff to expand their knowledge. Knowledge and specialization is what established us as pioneers in VAT in Cyprus ", he said, adding:
"Some people say they work hard, they play hard, I would say I work hard, I learn hard. If you love what you do, then work becomes a game. ”
Commenting on the success of his senior adviser, Alexis Tsielepis said that "having successfully completed this demanding degree, Panagiotis' knowledge is now at another, extremely high level", adding:
"The knowledge of Chelco VAT's VAT advisory team has been greatly enhanced, allowing us to offer even more comprehensive and reliable advice to our customers and partners."
Panagiotis is a certified public accountant (ACA) with many years of experience in VAT.
