The 6th International Music Olympiad concluded on Saturday in Ayia Napa in which musically talented young people from various countries participated, including the Czech Republic, Croatia, Lithuania, Poland, Greece and Cyprus. The closing ceremony took place in the Marina of Ayia Napa, in the presence of the Minister of Education and the Mayor of Ayia Napa.
The President of the International Organizing Committee, Mrs. Georgia Neophytou, stated that this specific event for Cyprus and the Ministry of Education is of the utmost importance both educationally and culturally.
Students from different countries had the opportunity to test their knowledge and skills in music and to showcase their talent. At the same time, the goal, he said, is to promote our island as a tourist destination.
The president of the International Jury and honored person was the music composer, academician and director of international artistic events, dr. Marios Ioannou Ilias, who mentioned that the Music Olympiad, although it is a competitive event, has as its main goal the educational encouragement of musically talented young people and the establishment of bonds of cooperation and friendship between them.
He pointed out that through the Olympiad, the position of music education as a creative subject in the national programs of learning objectives is strengthened, while the opportunity is given to talented young people for artistic self-expression at an international level.
