Dozens of volunteers, who work daily for the sorting and packaging of food, citizens, Organized Bodies and Ensembles of the Municipality of Ayia Napa such as the AKEL Local Committee, the Hunting Association, the Youth Council, etc., responded to the appeal of the Municipality and the Church of Panagia Napa and offered generous food to the thousands of Lebanese homeless during the deadly August 4 bombing, filling hundreds of boxes with dry food, which were received by Mayor Christos Zannettou and the First Elder of the Temple.
Then they were transferred to KEPA "Agios Christoforos", which in collaboration with the Office of the Commissioner for Volunteering and Non-Governmental Organizations operates as a collection point for supplies for the Province of Famagusta.
Mr. Zannettou expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the Citizens, the Organized Ensembles and Bodies for their selfless contribution and stressed that without their own contribution and help this effort would not be fruitful.
"The slightest help, he added, is too great for the people of Lebanon being tested, a people with whom Ayia Napa has a special brotherly relationship, having been twinned with the city of Byblos for some years."
"I was sure he noted that both our citizens and you, the organized groups of our Municipality, would generously offer your help because we are a people with charitable feelings, who knows from difficulties, having experienced tragic situations as they were the Turkish Invasion in 1974, Marie, etc. "
He also assured that the Municipality will continue the effort to provide as much help as possible and expressed the hope that the neighboring country to overcome this critical and tragic situation that it is experiencing as soon as possible.
For their part, the representatives of all the Organized Ensembles and Bodies stated that the tragic event that has happened in neighboring Lebanon "has sensitized all our members", that is why they stated, "we decided to support the effort of our Municipality to collect items dry food and solidarity with our fellow human beings.
They also thanked their members and all citizens in general for their positive response and wished it to be the last time such tragic events occur due to human negligence.
